The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) had its genesis from establishment of an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Madras, Tamil Nadu, as early as 1868 and it was later relocated at Coimbatore.

Centre for Students Welfare, TNAU, Coimbatore has an international Cell for facilitating the prospective students for Higher Education Abroad. TNAU has signed MOU with Dalhousie University, Canada to offer Dual Degree Program for UG students from 2009 onwards.
Further, The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic and research linkage between Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore and Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada was prepared based on the guidelines of Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Government of India. General MOU was signed on 20.8.2020 between TNAU and Dalhousie University, Canada .
TNAU, Coimbatore and Dalhousie University, Canada is jointly working together to enhance the educational opportunities available to TNAU students through a program of study in which students undertake their first three years of university study at TNAU and their fourth and fifth years of University study at Dalhousie University (The Dual Degree Program). The students who may be considered for admissions the Dalhousie portion of the Dual Degree Program must be enrolled in B.Sc., (Agri.) and B.Sc., (Hort.) in the third year of study at TNAU and must successfully complete at least five semesters of full-time study in TNAU according to the approved curriculum with a grade average of 70 per cent.
