Committee for Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Places

A safe workplace is, a woman’s legal right. Indeed, the Constitutional doctrine of equality and personal liberty is contained in Articles 14, 15 and 21 of the Indian Constitution. These articles ensure a person’s right to equal protection under the law, to live a life free from discrimination on any ground and to protection of life and personal liberty.

In compliance with “The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013”, an internal committee has been formed at College level with senior women staff members and members from all sections of employees. The Committee for Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women has been formed to address all grievances pertaining to sexual harassment of women (teaching and non-teaching staff and labourers) at the Horticultural College and Research Institute for women, Tiruchirappalli.

The committee consists of Professor (Horticulture) as chairman and four members. The committee meetings were conducted once in a year to discuss issues on harassment of women. In the meetings, any issues on women harassment are reviewed and the details on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 and preamble of the act and Redress i.e., information on who can complain, to whom and what a complaint should contain were clearly explained to the staff and farm workers. The college did not have any past record of women harassment cases so far. Hence, solving any cases of women harassment does not arise.
