National Service Scheme

NSS activities are carried out as a registered course in UG degree programme for the first four semesters. The NSS activities include regular activities and special camp activities. It is aimed to develop student’s personality through community service and inculcate social welfare in students and provide service to society. NSS volunteers work to ensure that needy people gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. Volunteers learn from village people how to lead a good life despite a scarcity of resources. This college has one NSS unit comprising of I and II year students and has no NCC unit. NSS programme is split into Regular activities and Special camp activities.

Regular NSS activities

Regular activities viz., campus cleaning, playground cleaning, hostel cleaning, tree planting, rallies, organizing special lectures, conducting blood donation camp, celebrating national days, conducting various competitions etc. are carried out by the NSS volunteers within and outside the campus premises during weekends. 

Special camp activities

During the fourth semester, a special camp programme for a period of seven days is conducted regularly at the adopted village. NSS volunteers and NSS Programme Officers must stay in the adopted village throughout the camp period and carry out the village improvement programmes. Special camping activities viz., conducting medical and eye camps, free veterinary camp,tree planting, cleaning activities, organizing lectures etc., are carried out by the NSS volunteers in the particular adopted village. NSS Programme Officers get the instructions from NSS Co-ordinator and assist the NSS volunteers to carry out above such activities. NSS volunteers of the college are involved in carrying out the above activities. 

Celebration of NSS day

Competitions such as Essay Writing, Slogan writing, Painting and Pencil drawing were conducted on 22.09.2018.

Notable achievements in the past 5 years

  • Dr. R. Neelavathi, NSS programme officer and Ms. N.P. Yazhini, II B.Sc. (Horticulture) NSS volunteer attended the Summer adventure camp conducted by AtalBihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali, Himachal Pradesh from 14.09.2014 to 23.09.2014. In the adventure camp, 108 Km Trekking, Mount Climbing, Zumaring, Valley Crossing, Repelling, Camping were completed successfully. 
  • Dr.R.Neelavathi bagged the Best NSS Programme Officer Award for the year 2015 and received the award on 01.07.2016 during the TNAU foundation day.
  • Ms.N.P.Yazhini, III B.Sc. (Horticulture), NSS volunteer, bagged the Best NSS volunteer for the year 2015 and received the award on 01.07.2016 during the TNAU foundation day.
